Handle With Tenderness:
Treat your earrings with the same care you would give a favorite book. While they are crafted for durability, their miniature scale means the internal pages and hand-stitched bindings are delicate. Avoid pulling on individual pages or the covers, as the stitching can be compromised or pages may tear away from the spine.
Keep Them Dry:
Just as you would not leave a book out in the rain, avoid exposing your earrings to water. Remove them before showering, swimming, or any activity involving moisture. Because they are made of rescued paper and traditional adhesives, water will cause the paper fibers to swell, which can warp the pages and weaken the glue holding the binding together.
Store Them Safely:
When you are not wearing your earrings, store them in a dry, clean place like a jewelry box or pouch. This protects the physical structure of the book from being crushed or caught on other items, which could snap the binding threads or rip the pages. Proper storage also ensures the books are not forced open, which can permanently strain the spine and cause the binding to lose its shape.
Protect Them From The Elements:
Avoid exposing your earrings to extreme heat. High temperatures can cause the protective coating on the covers to soften, making them tacky. This can cause the earrings to stick to other surfaces or collect debris. Keeping them in a cool, climate-controlled space will ensure the finish remains crisp and the binding stays secure.
Maintain Your Hardware:
The jump rings connecting the books to the earring hooks are moving parts that can shift with regular wear. Periodically check these connections to ensure they are tightly closed. If you notice a small gap, you can easily close it yourself by gently squeezing the ring with a pair of needle-nose pliers. However, if a book detaches completely or you prefer a professional touch, please contact me for a tightening or replacement as part of my lifetime commitment.
How to Care for Your Handbound Tiny Books:
A Lifetime Commitment
While these tiny books have already been given a second life, they remain as delicate as any other well-read volume. Because they are made from salvaged paper and hand-stitched thread, they may naturally show signs of wear over time. I am here to ensure that your collection can be worn and cherished for as long as possible.
Because of the delicate nature of hand-stitched paper, most structural issues are best solved by a full replacement rather than a repair. If a binding thread snaps or a page comes loose through normal wear, I will replace the book for you at no cost. Even if your earrings meet with a significant accident, such as a trip through the washing machine or a curious pet, or if a book is lost due to a hardware failure, my commitment still stands. I will replace your book at no cost to you, as my goal is to keep these salvaged stories in the world, not in the landfill.
I only ask that you cover the cost of shipping so that I can send out your replacement.
